NHS Spring COVID-19 Vaccination

This spring, a COVID‑19 vaccine will be offered to people aged 75 and over, residents in care homes for older people, and those aged six months and over with a weakened immune system.

Published: 15 May 2026

Why this matters: 42% of people in Somerset have already been vaccinated this Spring but the virus spreads easily all year round and can be very dangerous and even life threatening for vulnerable people such as those who are immunosuppressed and those who live in a care home for older adults. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to reduce severe illness and hospitalisation. UKHSA data shows people vaccinated in spring were around 50% less likely to be admitted to hospital with COVID-19. The NHS is encouraging all eligible people to come forward for vaccination. Local sharing helps us reach people who may not see NHS updates elsewhere. More information is available here
